Essential Information

The Jiri Motorbike Tour combines scenic hill riding with the history and culture of one of Nepal's traditional gateways to the Everest region. The route passes through river valleys, forests, terraced hillsides and mountain settlements before continuing to Kalinchowk.

1. Jiri, the Historic Gateway to Everest

Jiri was historically one of the main starting points for expeditions and trekking journeys toward Everest before regular flights to Lukla became common.

The town offers a quieter experience of the Everest region, surrounded by green hills, traditional settlements and mountain scenery.

2. Riding Through the Mid-Hills

The route from Kathmandu toward Jiri follows winding mountain roads through forests, terraced farmland, river valleys and rural settlements.

The riding experience changes continuously as the road climbs and descends through the hills.

3. Sunkoshi and Tamakoshi Valleys

The journey follows scenic sections of the Sunkoshi and Tamakoshi river systems.

Steep hillsides, forests, rivers and small settlements create a constantly changing landscape along the route. Depending on conditions and the planned itinerary, optional river activities may also be available.

4. Local Villages and Daily Life

Away from the main tourist routes, the journey provides opportunities to see everyday life in Nepal's mid-hill communities.

Traditional houses, agricultural fields, local markets and roadside settlements provide a more local perspective of rural Nepal.

5. Exploring Jiri Bazar

Jiri Bazar provides time to slow down after the longer mountain ride.

Visitors can explore the local market, surrounding viewpoints and nearby areas while experiencing the quieter atmosphere of the hill town.

6. Stone Park

Stone Park, also known as Black Stone Park, is one of the local attractions around Jiri.

The area provides a peaceful setting for short walks and viewpoints and offers another way to experience the landscape surrounding the town.

7. Kalinchowk Extension

The route continues from Jiri toward Kalinchowk, bringing a significant change in elevation and scenery.

The higher mountain environment around Kalinchowk provides colder conditions, rugged mountain roads and panoramic Himalayan views when the weather is clear.

8. Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple

Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple is an important religious site located in the high mountain area.

Visitors should follow local customs when visiting the temple and surrounding religious areas.

9. Changing Mountain Weather

The journey crosses several elevations, so conditions can change considerably between Kathmandu, Jiri and Kalinchowk.

Rain, cloud, strong winds or cold temperatures can affect visibility and road conditions. Waterproof protection and warm layers are useful throughout the trip.

10. Mountain Route Flexibility

The road network through the hills can be affected by rainfall, landslides, construction and local road conditions.

Travel times are therefore approximate, and the riding schedule may be adjusted when necessary according to conditions on the ground.
