Four riders ready to continue their Kodari motorbike adventure in Nepal

Kodari – China View Point Ride: From river valleys to the edge of the border.

The Kodari – China View Point Ride is one of Nepal’s most scenic and adventure-filled motorbike journeys, combining Himalayan landscapes, river valleys, cultural landmarks and thrilling optional activities along the way. This route follows the historic Arniko Highway toward the Nepal–China border, offering riders a constantly changing backdrop of lush hills, roaring rivers, waterfalls and dramatic cliffs.

As riders travel along this route, they are accompanied by the two beautiful Bhote-Koshi and Sun-Koshi rivers along with a point where these two rivers merge. Groups have the exciting opportunity to enjoy boating or white-water rafting. This can be arranged as an add-on adventure or included in the package depending on group size and preference. Further along the ride lies one of Asia’s most thrilling adventure spot, The Last Resort Bungee Jump, known as one of the deepest bungee points in Asia. Riders seeking an adrenaline rush can opt for this activity at an additional cost.

A memorable stop on this journey is Tatopani, famous for its natural hot springs believed by locals to have healing properties. Here, riders can relax and bathe in the therapeutic waters — an experience included in the package. The ride then continues to the historic Kodari China Border, where travelers can witness the striking view of the border area and explore the historic Tatopani–Khasa Bazaar, a marketplace near the Kodari China border that was once very active with cross-border trade and still reflects the unique cultural connection between Nepal and China.

This ride is not only about reaching the border but about experiencing the diverse geography, culture and adventure Nepal offers in a single compact journey. Along the way, riders follow scenic river valleys with optional rafting or boating, pass a famous bungee site, unwind in Tatopani’s natural hot springs and visit a historic border marketplace reflecting the Nepal–China connection, making the journey as memorable as the destination.

Route Map
Essential Information

The Kodari China View Point Motorbike Tour follows the historic Arniko Highway through dramatic river valleys and mountain landscapes toward Nepal's northern border. The journey combines Himalayan riding with cultural sites, natural hot springs and optional adventure activities.

1. The Arniko Highway

The journey follows the historic Arniko Highway as it leaves the Kathmandu Valley and enters the mountain landscape toward Kodari.

The road passes through winding hills, river valleys, villages and increasingly dramatic mountain scenery.

2. Bhote Koshi and Sun Koshi Valleys

The route follows the Bhote Koshi and Sun Koshi river valleys, where steep cliffs, waterfalls and narrow mountain landscapes create some of the most scenic sections of the journey.

The changing river environment is a major part of the riding experience.

3. Namobuddha and Nagarkot

The journey begins with a cultural and scenic ride through the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding hills.

Namobuddha provides a peaceful Buddhist setting, while Nagarkot offers a hilltop environment and Himalayan views when weather conditions are clear.

4. Tatopani Hot Springs

Tatopani is an important stop on the route and is known for its natural hot springs.

The stop provides an opportunity to relax after the mountain ride before continuing toward the border region.

5. Kodari and the Border Landscape

The journey reaches Kodari on the Nepal side of the Nepal-China border.

The tour is designed to experience the border landscape and surrounding area from Nepal. It does not include crossing into China or Tibet.

6. The Historic Border Marketplace

The area around Kodari and Tatopani has a long history of cross-border trade.

The historic marketplace and surrounding settlements provide an interesting glimpse into the connection between Nepal's Himalayan communities and the northern border.

7. Optional Adventure Activities

Depending on availability and prior arrangement, riders can add activities such as rafting, boating or bungee jumping.

These activities are optional and may involve additional costs or scheduling requirements.

8. From River Valleys to High Mountains

The journey covers a noticeable change in elevation, from the warmer river valleys toward the high mountain environment around Kalinchowk.

This creates significant changes in temperature, vegetation and scenery during a relatively short journey.

9. Kalinchowk Mountain Environment

The Kalinchowk section provides a contrasting mountain experience after the lower river valleys.

The road becomes more rugged as it climbs, while the surrounding landscape becomes colder and more alpine. On clear days, the area provides wide Himalayan views.

10. Respecting Local Communities

The route passes through villages, religious sites and communities along the Arniko Highway and mountain roads.

Riders should respect local customs, avoid unnecessary noise through settlements and follow local instructions when visiting religious or cultural sites.

11. Weather and Route Flexibility

Mountain weather and road conditions can change quickly. Rain, landslides, road construction or local restrictions can affect travel times or access to individual sections.

The daily riding plan may therefore be adjusted according to conditions while maintaining the main Kodari and Kalinchowk experience whenever possible.
